History
It all began in Japan in 1977, when a visiting B.C. Minister of Tourism was asked, “Which B.C. Municipality would you recommend as a Sister City?” The suggestion “Kelowna” was made and for the next few years. Visits and gifts were exchanged freely and in February 1981 a Sister City Agreement was signed. The KKSCA was formed to foster relationships with Kasugai, Japan in the areas of culture, civic, education, athletics, economic, environment, and fellowship. People from the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce / Tourism Kelowna, Kelowna Lions Club, Kelowna Downtown Rotary Club, Kelowna Jaycees, Kelowna Lady of the Lake Society, and the City of Kelowna who were progressively minded at that time thought that it would be a great initiative.
