Travel – how to get here
Kelowna International Airport is one of the 10 busiest airports in Canada with non-stop flights arriving daily from Toronto, Seattle, Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary and Edmonton. As well, the Shell Aero Centre welcomes private aircraft and provides pilot services such as sleeping quarters, cooking facilities and 24-hour Customs.
Location – How to Find us
Kelowna is located approximately 400 km (240 miles) from Vancouver and 600 km (360 miles) from Calgary on Highway 97. Kelowna is 150 km (90 miles) north of the United States border and easily accessible by bus and car via Highway 1, 3 or 5.
Weather – What to pack
The Okanagan Valley offers a comfortable climate year-round and umbrellas are seldom required. Summers are warm with hot days, boasting clear sunny skies and low humidity. In the spring and fall seasons, temperatures can fluctuate between cool mornings, warm daytimes and return to even cooler evenings. Winters are generally much milder than other areas of Canada. Although snow is abundant at the surrounding ski resorts, it rarely stays for long in the City. Don't forget your sunglasses – you'll need them for any time of the year in Kelowna!
Orchards & Gardens
Depending on when you choose to visit, Kelowna's landscape presents as many stunning shifts in colour as there are things to do. During springtime, the orchards burst in bouquets of pink and white blossoms. In summer, they are laden with fruit you can pick yourself. Visit a working orchard and take a tour to learn how fruit from the tree makes its way to your grocer. Or, stroll through a magnificent garden and let the beauty surround you.
Urban excitement & Country Quaintness
We have the best of both worlds in Kelowna. Downtown bustles with big city shopping, all kinds of dining, nightclubs, culture and entertainment. Of course, there's always a sandy beach and the cool lake for relaxing only steps away. And just minutes from the buzz, you can explore the calm beauty of our orchards, vineyards and secluded mountain trails. Kelowna has urban panache and a wholesome country welcome waiting to be shared.
Arts, Culture & Entertainment
Kelowna is home to internationally-acclaimed artists and you can enjoy their creativity at Kelowna's Art Gallery in the Cultural District or right in artists’ studios. Enjoy a Sculpture Walk downtown and along the lake if you like your art al fresco. In summer, downtown is alive with music and dance performances under cloudless skies. Kelowna's concert venues host entertainment to suit every taste, and a thriving theatre scene will add spice to your visit in any season.
Attractions & Activities
Kelowna is a family-oriented holiday paradise! You're never far from the giggles with water parks and lakeside fun. If hiking and biking are what get you smiling, Kelowna has choices galore. Choose from mountain trails and quiet orchard settings. As your Okanagan holiday headquarters, Kelowna is blessed with beaches just begging for sand castles during the lazy months of summer. It's the perfect place for the whole family.
Winter
When the snow flies, Kelowna magically transforms. It is one of the best locales for winter fun you'll find anywhere. Big White is the closest full service ski resort to Kelowna, only a 45-minute drive away. And there are three other alpine skiing facilities within driving distance from Kelowna too. Groomed cross-country trails and wilderness snowmobiling areas that offer terrain from relaxed and easy to outstanding and remote are all here waiting for you.
Golf
Whether you want the challenge of championship golf links or the chance to appreciate incomparable Okanagan views, Kelowna offers one of the widest selections of both to be found in North America. From awe-inspiring fairways and rolling greens guarded by sugary sand bunkers, to the casual family-fun of 18-hole putting courses, Kelowna offers the best. In fact, if you like, you can test your skill with a new golf experience every day of your visit.
Festivals & Events
We love to celebrate and show off our creative flair and the result is that Kelowna is a city of fun and fests! Visit in May for our annual Life & Arts Festival where an eclectic mix of visual and performing arts reach unexpected heights. The Spring and Fall Okanagan Wine Festivals are sure to delight the senses also as you sip, taste and learn all about the art of winemaking.
Wineries
Kelowna's renowned wineries offer you a taste of the “old world.” Cellars are lined with oak casks, patios overlook sleepy vineyards and delightful food accompanies flavourful wines. We even have a replica of an ancient pyramid to tantalize your imagination. The sun-drenched valley surrounding Kelowna is dotted with farm-gate wineries too. You can explore each oasis and visit family-run wineries where every vintage is lovingly bottled by hand.
Ice wine
In Canada, that‘nowhere but here’drink is Ice wine, and Kelowna area wineries are internationally renowned for producing this treasured delicacy. Made at temperatures of -8 Celsius or below, pickers are often summoned in the middle of the night to pick the frozen grapes at the absolute perfect time. The tiny droplets of juice pressed from these marble-hard grapes are its purest essence. The result is a natural and fascinating taste, created by the Canadian winter.
